55- Fiction- Separate Ways

This is my first attempt at 55-fiction. I was highly inspired after reading a few of them, this kind of writing is here to stay, So well this is me jumping into the bandwagon

It was like every other holiday, mom and dad packed their bags.

Mom was loud as usual, and Dad never cared to listen.

We went to the airport and scanned the luggage.

They never kissed, never said Good Bye, not a word shared .

My mom held my hand and they walked separate ways.

The Drop

A new city always tends to throw in surprises on you. There are things which are routine for other people but it’s not the way you have seen things happen around you. It was one fine such day well not exactly fine as I missed one bus and the next one was after an hour and as luck would have it I went to have my nimbu paani when the next one arrived, so I left my nimbu paani and ran behind the bus. I am sure it was a scene to watch for the people around the bus stop. Had it not been for one person called a CONDUCTOR I would have missed the bus. He noticed me running and when he had enough of fun watching me do, it he pulled the rope connected to a mini bell which is placed near the driver seat.
Anyways I managed to get into the bus, but the nightmare did not end there. The bus was so heavily crowded; I guess I was better off missing this one too. I pushed myself forward hoping that there would be some place to sit, I needed it badly because my stop was the last one and my acrobats to get into the bus had already tired me out. Let me tell you one thing. In a crowded bus like this you can always see the diversity in our country very easily and this reminded me of one ecological balance diagram I had seen when I was in school. It told about how ecological systems can vary in a very small distance and this crowded bus did give me an idea of how complicated these things are, hats off to all those who have spent all their lives studying this.
In two minutes my feet, started accusing me of all the agony I was implicating. Just then there was a small pat on my back. It was an old man; he had wrinkled face with a huge part of his skin hanging down his neck. He had a small bald patch on his forehead and his grey hair was neatly pulled back, probably to hide another bold patch. He was wearing a khaki coloured shirt uniform. He got up from his seat
“Son, sit here I will be getting down in some time” he said and stood besides the seat he had just given up.
Normally I would have asked him to be seated and get up only when his stop was nearby but today I had to give in because of the kind of day I had. I was but a little surprised because in Pune the people in the buses just don’t give up their seats so easily. His body language was different, while he was standing just besides me, he was looking outside the window. He wasn't seeing what all the other people where seeing outside, his face told a story of its own. I thought I could ask him something, may be offer his seat back to him, hoping that he was alright.
Even before I could gather my thoughts, a small tear drop fell on my wrist. It shone like a small pearl and I knew tears aren’t something one sheds every day. I raised my head towards him, his eyes where now misty, he hurriedly took out a handkerchief from his pocket and rubbed the tear off my hand, and pushed his way out of the bus. I was held back by something, after all he was a stranger, what would I have asked him? Why would he have even talked to me.
I wonder what made him shed that tear, which was the same reason why he was alone in this crowded bus and that something was also the same thing which did not allow him to share any of his emotions with anyone. His emotions were like the tear which he wiped off from my hand, it was precious and pure but not everyone deserved to see it. I knew I was undeserving , but I closed my eyes and prayed, that’s the least I could do

Serious Comedy

Picture this, one professor with all the knowledge in the world about the subject, teaches you in a class observing pin-drop silence, or a professor with just enough knowledge( at least more than you) teaching you while slipping in his wise cracks in between. Whose class will you attend?

When we sit with our friends, there is always an element of humor prevalent, be it at the expense of your boss, your neighbor or your friend. Knowingly or unknowingly comedy leaves an irreplaceable impression on our minds. So am I saying that a comedy of Govinda influences us more than a serious and all exposing movie of Madhur Bhandarkar?. NO!, what I am trying to say is that when comedy comes out with the purpose of influencing a mind, it is more successful in the long run than an all out serious movie. Let me prove my point here, Madhur Bhandakar has always had a gay character in his movies but it when Abhishek and John who tickled our funny bone in Dostana with their gay act that lead to the acceptance of gay relationships in the society.

Now have a look at most of our leaders, one of the most popular leader Laloo Prasad Yadav is famous for his wise cracks and always has a large scale following despite his non performing government. I will agree that  he did miracles with our railways,no doubt, but other than that his portfolio has a more prominent Chara Ghotala than a road development. So I guess all we have to do is to keep good humor among the general population and you have a mass leader. Now lets also look at Raj Thackrey, he has risen among the major political players in Maharashtra in the past few years and does have a mass following. If we listen to his speeches, he always adds the humor element to his criticism (look at his answer to the CM Ashok Chavan's rant and you will surely add a point to my case). If my point on Raj Thackrey doesnt convince you, lets not go too far, think of Balasaheb Thackrey. He was a cartoonist, and started a political revolution in Maharashtra with his cartoon strip Marmik.

Let me ask you one question. Are all Sardars stupid? No, but well the amount of Sardar jokes circulating, isnt it difficult to imagine an intelligent Sardar ( obviously there are exceptions and our prime minister is one of them). See unknowingly the entire nation has made an opinion about sardars without any major campaign!. Thats the power of a laugh. There are many more points to add and I haven't even started on Charlie Chaplin. His work during the depressing periods of World Wars catapulted him to immortality and his downfall was a serious movie ( he was asked to leave USA a country of his residence for more than three decades due to his movie with heavy political undercurrents)

So what was the reason for me to write this post. The only thing what I wanted to say is that, it doesn't take tears, blood or money to start a revolution, all you need is a hearty laugh

Global Handwashing day

Well October 15th was the world hand washing day. You know we wouldn't have needed to have this had we all paid attention to what we were taught when we were kids. I guess we would have had more winners on "Kya aap Pachvi pass se tez hain" then also. So our loss is their gain, and also the gain of all the viruses and diseases are hands are capable of carrying.
I remember fellow blogger Shilpa had posted not so long ago about washing hands(to read her post click here). Its a very informative post and even has name of diseases which i still have trouble spelling so please go ahead and read her post.

Now getting back to my style of Gyaanbaazi. I had once read that more than 45% of people don't clean their hands after coming out of the loo ( Yuck!!!).

The current situation which the world is facing ( read Dukkar flu), can be averted with a simple habit of washing hands and so are so many diseases.

Now since I am a day late, so I am not gonna talk much about it. All I hope is that all of us incorporate in our daily life the very simple habit of washing hands regularly.

An Inconvenient Truth

Since the industrial revolution has started our lives have been much more comfortable than it has ever been. Slowly and steadily all occassional luxuries have turned into needs and this process is ongoing.  Among all this we have conveniently ignored all that we have done to mother nature. It is a shame that, after facing the wrath of mother nature so many times in the past decade, there are segments still arguing about the effects of our actions on our environment. The major threats and effects of Global warming have still being debated.
Lets have a look around us, the climatic patterns in more than 15-20 countires have changed in the past few years, the average temperatures of almost all countires around us have risen. It snowed in the deserts on UAE!. The snow cover at the poles is eroding, the level of water is increasing near the coasts, hurricanes, earthquakes,Tsunami, you name it and we have had it all in the past 6-7 years itself. Here I would like to state a very famous quote by Al Gore, once the vice president of America and an active environmentalist. After Hurricane Katrina he said

“What changed in US after Huriicane Katrina was a feeling that we have entered a period of consequences

It is really surprising that a huge number among us still don’t believe that Global warming is a reality. The lack of political interest in so many countries seems to be one of the major obstacles in bringing out reforms. One of the major reasons why these reforms are not been coming out openely is because of the huge number of people working in the automobile industries, manufacturing industries and so many other major polluters. It is understood that it is a major challenge to find alternative solutions to this imposing issue of global warming without dsrupting the economics, but what is hurting is the lack of major initiatives .

I have compiled a list of  things we can do to do our bit( They are from various websites so I will not take credit for it)

1)      Use Fluorescent Bulbs:
Changing a normal light bulb with a Fluorescent bulb, means you have saved mre than 150 pounds of carbon dioxide emission in a year

2)       Share a ride:
If a classmate stays near by, the share a ride, it would save one 1 kg of carbon dioxide for every two kilometers.

3)      Check your tires:
Make sure that your tires are inflated properly, it would give more mileage, at the same time reduce carbon emissions

4)       Recycle more:
Use stuff  which is easily recyclable, it reduces a hell lot of carbon dioxide content in the                           atmosphere

5)      Plant a Tree:
Might be the most basic of acts, but has the most impact. A tree absorbs more than a ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime

Lets accept it, for doing these things you don't have to wear your underwear differently. So lets take a step forward and do something about it

Choose wisely

First of all I must apologize, I was away for quite sometime, now that I am back, I must start with my gyaan.

Maharashtra is on the verge of another political battle between the players of Democracy, its about time we know what we are doing and what we can do.I thought I will write मनसे , but then in Maharashtra it has a different meaning altogether so whatever I say it will be दिलसे  I firmly believe that a  null vote should be made available to all of our voters. Because right now no one seems to have an answer to the problems Maharashtra is facing.

You know, we must work our way to find a solution to the current scenario. There is a leader portraying himself as a leader of the young and promises to bring the change, reaches for a rally around 6 hours late and speaks for ten minutes apologizes and rushes off. Other candidates struggles to change the name of a lion in Rajiv Gandhi zoo from an English name to a Marathi one and names his own dogs James and Bond!!!.

If one party says that we will bring the change, well they couldnt keep themselves in power for more than a term and it just shows that they were incapable of bringing it that one time, while the other party has been in power for years and has been using the same agenda over the years, electricity, roads, and water!!, in 50 years if they couldnt do anything, what will five years do.

Here we must realize that its our fault at large, a common Indian has been so engrossed in the daily vagaries of his life that he has forgotten that he has a social and political responsibility on his already burdened shoulders.

The first step is to start voting, it is necessary that we vote, now at the same time,we must know that who should we vote for, right now we might have options between a murderer and a thief, but hopefully someday this situation will improve. It requires alert citizens, we must use the media platforms we have to start simple protests to show that we will not tolerate candidates with tainted records.

I guess we have a lot to do and somehow we will have to find a way out of this mess, but at least start voting, despite the fact that you will have to select a person with less criminal records this time, but lets realize that only we can change that, till then

choose wisely
